Fishy Story

When Joe was 2, he accidently won the annual Fishing Derby, at the Conservation Club where I work. He caught the biggest fish, while having no idea that he did, and threw a major fit as I wrestled the pole away from him, to help reel it in. He has a trophy and everything, known for years as his "Fishy Tropy". Since then, he has had the fishing bug.
So, during the spring break whirlwind, Joe wanted to go fishing every day. And alas! There were no fish. Every day, Joe would come home, after hours of fishing with daddy. No fish. He was not happy his fishing was interupted when I called Jasin to tell him Lexi was in the E.R., and he had to pack it up and go get Kaila. Poor frustrated fisherboy!
However, Jasin finally took him to the pond that started it all at the Conservation Club, and LOOK!!! He caught TWO of them! Which he wanted to bring home and give to Lexi for her aquarium, empty since last year's goldfish tragedy.

He put them both back though. Congratulations Medium Fishingboy!

Busy week!

This week has been packed full of all sorts of fun things. I don't know if we can handle another Spring break around here! Hours before Lexi landed in the ER, the kids colored Easter eggs. I had a gallon of vinagar in my Trailblazer, along with all sorts of Easter basket trimmings. It leaked. There went the new car smell. Sigh. It was fun while it lasted! Easter dresses! Kaila came up with the idea of wearing that jacket with her dress. It actually looked good!

Joe took the Easter candy very seriously. Were I to hazard a guess, I think its all he ate for three and a half days.

The egg hunt!

The day after Easter, we took the kids to the aquarium in Niagara Falls. The kids had a blast!

Scary, how Lexi looks more terrifying than the 'shark jaws'! Joe looks like he is waiting for a bus.

And, of course, Kaila, my child obssessed with all things kitty, befriended a catfish

After the aquarium, we took the kids to see Niagara Falls. One of the wonders of the world and all that.

Kaila took one unimpressed look and said, "You dragged me all the way here to walk around and look at some WATER?!". Lord.

It was an exhusting day for everyone!

Last night, we had our first bonfire of the season. Kaila had a friend over, and we made S'Mores and told silly stories around the fire. Even Joe told stories!

You KNOW there have been too many marshmallows, when things stick to you!

DO I LOOK RESTED??!!!!

And, last but not least; Lexi had her stitches out today! As she lay on the doctor's table, she started to cry. I asked what was wrong, and she cried that Kaila had told her it would REALLY REALLY hurt to have them taken out. Note to self... have chat with Kaila upon arrival home. Things went fine and painless, and the doctor offered me the suture strings to save as a keepsake. Maybe I am a lousy Mom, but it never actually occured to me to keep them. I dutifuly tucked them into my purse though.
After the trip to the doctor, we went to the store where Lexi fell, and assured the staff that she was alive and well. A little side note here; I was APALLED at the sheer volume of people who INSISTED I find a lawyer and sue the store. I even ran into a lawyer I babysat for YEARS ago, who ALSO insisted I hire her husband to sue the store for me. At no point did a staff person trip my child, push my child, startle my child, speak to my child. She TRIPPED!!! I seriously never saw any reason why the store should be held even remotely accountable, and was disgusted at all the "Well, it's free money!" comments. What kind of world IS this? Okay. I feel better now!
And finally, Lexi did get to see the Hannah Montana movie that started it all today. She had pretzels, a med. soda, and a large popcorn, for the unbelievable deal of $17.00. All of which are in most of its uneaten state, in my truck.

PS... While it does look like she has a black eye in the above picture; she doesn't. She has been accident free for 5 whole days!

E.R. Adventures in LexiLand

This is our Little Lexi... This picture just about captures our fun little girl... If one of the kids is going to get into a pickle of any kind, it is this child. We have been at the E.R. more times with her than the other two put together! Just a few months ago, she had me JUST about convinced she had seriously injured, if not broken, her leg. The sitter was on her way, after leaving in the middle of a date, and Jasin was rushing home from work, and I was getting ready to leave for the hospital. I sat down next to her and started to feel her leg and toes, and she forgot to scream. When I demanded to know WHY she had just faked a broken leg, she sobbed that she just wanted to see an X-Ray picture of her leg bones. Sigh. I wish triplets just like herself on her almost daily. That being said; Lexi was in the E.R. for real today. The girls and I were going to see the new Hannah Montana movie. It didn't start for another 45 minutes, so we went to a nearby store. Lexi was striking poses in a full length mirror, and when she turned around to follow me, tripped and fell headfirst into a display shelf with a sharp edge...
One look at the horrendous hole in my child's head, and I knew there was not going to be a movie in our near future. Thank God we were only a few minutes from the hospital! This hole was HUGE!!! Blood was everywhere, and the shop employees were totaly freaking out.
I called Jasin, who came and grabbed Kaila, and him and Joe took Kaila to the movie with the tickets I already had, and Lexi fast became the E.R. and X -Ray darling

And, of course she demanded to see what her X-Rays looked like! They couldn't get enough of this precotious child, striding about in her brown suade cowgirl boots, asking all sorts of questions, and laughing so hard at every little thing, that they were all laughing too!

During a closer inspection of her head, I could see her actual skull. The nurse in me was like "Oh WOW!!! THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!" the Mom in me was like "OH MY GOD, MY POOR BABY!!!!"

We had a great doctor, who put her right at ease, and informed us, of course, that Lexi was definatley going to need stitches. Lex was, however, a total trooper during the whole thing. It took a double dose of numbing agent, to get her numb enough to suture it. That being the most painful part of the procedure for her. I sat right there and held her hand while she was all stitched up, (5 in all!). At one point, she began to cry, though she didn't move a muscle, and the doctor asked what was wrong?

"I just need a hug is all!" Wept my child. "AAWWWW!!!!!" went the general murmur around the room, as it seemed half the E.R. staff was gathered around, and the family of a little boy with a high temp. a few cubicles down. She was given candy, stickers, popsicles, and a teddy bear.

Here she is, all bandaged up, at home. Stitches come out next week. As she skipped through the front door when we arrived home, she was shrieking "THIS WAS THE BEST DAY EVER!!!!!"
Triplets. Just like herself!

To Sleep, Perchance To Dream

Spring Break; Mommy style!! There are no pictures in this blog, no kids, no dogs, no princes or ogres. I was just so happy, I decided to throw in a chatty Blog for the heck of it. Today was my Anatomy final, after a grueling week of cramming, studying and testing. Our teacher wanted to conclude anatomy before the break, so we all had a huge workload at school this week. It was insane, but we all got through it! I went in this morning and took my final and PASSED!!! AND made the Honor Roll again! With the 10,000 things there are to juggle every day, it just makes it so worth it!
After my clinical rotation tomorrow, (no sleep again. Gotta be up at 4 AM for that one) And work all weekend, Spring Break for me officially begins Monday! And what do Mommies do for spring break? As much of nothing as possible!!!!! Which will last approximately a day and a half, before I start feeling guilty about not doing all the things I should be. Laundry, cleaning, etc. etc. I might even wrestle the remote away from the kids and see what this thing they call TV is all about! Mostly though, I intend to SLEEP! Get up with the kids and spend the mornings in my bathrobe. Drink tea, and read books where anatomy takes on a completely different meaning! I might even take all the winter and Christmas stuff off the front porch and put it away. Mostly, I am going to sleep.
